I’m taking off for Vegas tomorrow night to attend the Suburban Newspapers of America’s (SNA) Interactive Strategies for Suburban and Community Markets meeting on May 13. Indigio is a proud sponsor of the event and I will have 5 minutes to tell the attendees about us, what we do and how we can help their newspaper sites evolve. I’ll post while I’m there and the presentation will also be videotaped (gulp… which depending on how it comes out I may post too after the show).
Look’s like a good agenda. There’s a session on Social Networking presented by the Bakersfield, Californian that should be relevant to our social marketplace work that are kicking off with MNGi and what looks to be another session on serving readers and advertisers through search marketing. Looking forward sharing our perspective on that too. I will be in Vegas for exactly 24 hours. Stay tuned for how much I can squeeze into that timeframe!

Tonight I was watching a show that talked about people’s hidden talents. It got me thinking about the talented people we have at Indigio and how it is not restricted only to creating amazing Web sites.
We have Summer Kelsey who may be doing Accounting for Indigio by day, but on nights and weekends is rocking out amazing homemade cakes that are worthy of the Food Network. We at Indigio are spoiled and Indigio makes one of her amazing cakes each month to celebrate birthdays of Indigians. Check out her photo gallery to see some of her cake masterpieces - Cakes by Summer. I have included April’s recent wonder, which as in the shape of a gumball machine. Yes, that is a cake; I know amazing, huh?.
There is Jessica Slater who is a very good Client Services Manager at Indigio, but also a very talented muscian with her husband Andy. Together they form the musical duo, The Alltunators. They play mostly folksy-blues-grass-jazz type music and perform throughout the Denver area. I checked out their site and they have 6 dates on the calendar already for June. If you can make one of her shows, I recommend it.
Mike Minton who heads our Technology Team is an engineering genius, but also builds amazing model train displays. I read his blog dedicated to building model trains and I am always amazed on how much detail he puts into his displays. They are absolutely amazing and it is great to see his passion. The scenery looks so realistic. Recently, I even saw him looking at sticks in City Park while at the MS Walk trying to find a stick with the texture he needed. Again, his level of detail cannot be matched.
Need advice on home repairs? Our Client Services Coordinator, Wayne Rodgers is the guy for you. I love his blog dedicated to repairs for his first home. More than just a blog about home repairs, Wayne offers advice to other first-time home owners looking to do repairs. He tracks costs, hours and provides photos to demonstrate dos and don’ts. His blog is amazing and he is truly a gifted at home remodeling. The before and after pictures speak for themselves.
The list goes on and on of the amazing talent and hobbies of my fellow Indigians. These are just four examples.
P.S. - Our Vice President of Client Services, Becki Dilworth can type the alphabet in something like 3-seconds. Not sure if this compares to musical or baking talents, but I find it fairly impressive.

The Marketing Department welcomed Natalie O’Rourke last week to the team. Her 1st day at Indigio kept the neighboring florist busy as she received a few bouquets to properly welcome her to her new job. We knew that she was loved but that rumor has been validated! Natalie will be acting in the role of Marketing Coordinator, assisting with press releases, newsletters, event planning, collateral and various Marketing tasks. Miss O’Rourke is relatively new to Colorado and calls Auburn, CA home. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, working out, hiking and time spent with friends and family. Be on the look out for Natalie at future Indigio events and be sure and stop by and say hello to her! Welcome Natalie!

Monthly Indigians are encouraged to anonymously nominate fellow Indigians for our Peer Award. This award is for recognizing employees’ contributions, building self-esteem, promoting teamwork and inspiring excellence at Indigio. This started in late 2007 and we now receive 5-8 nomination each month.
I am proud to announce Jaala Hedlund, Media Manager as the winner for April 2008. In the words of the individual who nominated Jaala, here is why she deserves recognition:
Jaala continues to grow at Indigio and has really taken the pay-per-click campaigns for our clients to new levels and have helped our clients find success with online advertising. She exhibits excitement, eagerness, and a genuine care for each program’s success. Additionally, Jaala graces us with her positive attitude every day and of course, her singing and fake British accent.”
Congratulations to Jaala. She truly is wonderful to have on our Team and she makes Indigio a great place to work.

I am finding that selecting the perfect merger partner is a lot like selecting a prom date. Thinking back to my high school daze..uh…that is days, I remember that there were lots of girls that I could have asked to the prom. When I started seriously thinking about prom, I remember my first thought was that I needed to ask someone fast. Get it locked down. That is the goal, right? To make sure you have a prom date. My thought process was something like this. Okay, who to take? How about her? Or maybe her? Or maybe…wow, this is serious. There are a lot of girls in this school. I can’t just ask the first one that comes along because what if a better date presents itself. And I can’t really imagine taking two girls to the prom at the same time. While interesting, it would divide my focus and probably wouldn’t turn out well. I should take some time and think about this. Make sure I ask the right girl. Do I ask a girl I know well and have built a friendship with or do I ask I girl that I don’t know but that I think I am attracted to? Do I ask someone from a different school? Do I ask a senior? Junior? Sophomore? Unbelievable how many options there are. I definitely want to go with someone that I will get along with. Girls everywhere. So many options.
So I started to prepare a mental list of girls I knew and girls I wish I knew and even fantasy girls I had not yet met. My list was in order of which girls I would like to go to the prom with the most. I then had to apply some simple filtering. Which girls did I actually have a chance with? There went the fantasy options. And the head cheerleader. And…well let’s just say the list got a little shorter. Now that I had a solid list I was free to ask…hey…what is that other guy doing? He is asking a girl on my list. What!?!? Someone beat me to punch. And then I started to panic about who else might ask the rest of the available girls before I got to them. I mean, even if I was a better option, would a girl that had said yes to someone else now go back and tell her prom date that she changed her mind so she could go with me. What would that say about the girl? So confusing.
Now the funny part about this was that it didn’t really hit me that the girls were doing some thinking of their own. Before panic set in, I just kind of figured they were waiting patiently for me to ask. I am betting their thought process went something like this. Do I even want to go to prom? I guess it depends on who asks me? Do I want to go with a friend or am I holding out for the captain of the football team? What if someone I don’t know asks me? What if someone from a different school asks me? If someone asks and they are okay but not ideal, do I say yes? What am I really looking for in a prom date? Do I ask someone? Oh the options.
And they started to mentally create their own list of possibilities.
Now it is a matter of timing and luck. Can you ask the right girl at the right time? Ask too early and she is likely going to hedge her bet and potentially wait for a better offer. Ask too late and well it is too late. Panic and ask the wrong girl and then you will likely have regrets. It is really a wonder that anyone actually goes to the prom… other than Becki and Tom.
Well, prom is approaching for Indigio. I can definitely tell you that we are going. I guess the question remains, with who?

Today, CSIA - Colorado’s Technology Association announced companies and individuals nominated for the 8th annual CSIA Apex Awards. Indigio was nominated in the corporate category and Becki Dilworth was nominated in the individuals category. This is the largest annual technology award event in Colorado, so this is very exciting.
“The nominated companies represent the leaders of Colorado’s technology industry,” said Barbara Bauer, co-chair of the 2008 CSIA Apex Awards. “It’s important to recognize the achievements made in our state, as well as the people behind the successes.” “These nominees - as well as the guests - represent the innovation and business success of technology in Colorado,” Jackie Walden, co-chair of the 2008 CSIA Apex Awards added.
A full description of the categories is available at CSIA’s Web site at www.coloradotechnology.org. The winners will be announced on June 5th at the Apex Awards event.
I personally am very proud to be a part of a company recognized and I am especially happy my friend and co-worker Becki is being honored. Becki is truly deserving as she is an industry leader and is one of the reasons for Indigio’s success. Good luck Becki!

Dale and I enjoyed the low 80 degree temperatures and sunshine with a trip to the Denver Botanic Gardens to check out the opening of their new exhibit Urban Nature. It is a very exciting and beautiful exhibit that combines street art, mostly spray-painted graffiti panels, throughout the Gardens. It is a wonderful mix of flowers, plants, art and color that all collide in a fascinating way.
Indigio has been involved in this exhibit in that we provided a photoblog to the Denver Botanic Gardens that services as a micro-site about the exhibit. Check it out at www.denverurbannature.com. Read the rest of this entry »
