A Special Thanks from Wonderful New Friends Tom Whittaker

    Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Yesterday the entire Marketing, Public Relations and Events Team from the Denver Botanic Gardens came to Indigio and provided the entire company lunch as a thank you for Indigio’s support of their recent Web site redesign.

The staff from Denver Botanic Gardens went as far as to serve everyone lunch, so they could personally thank everyone. It was a very special luncheon and a wonderful way to thank Indigio. I know I was very appreciative, as were all my fellow Indigians. Read the rest of this entry »

Urban and Nature Collide Tom Whittaker

    Saturday, April 19th, 2008

Dale and I enjoyed the low 80 degree temperatures and sunshine with a trip to the Denver Botanic Gardens to check out the opening of their new exhibit Urban Nature.  It is a very exciting and beautiful exhibit that combines street art, mostly spray-painted graffiti panels, throughout the Gardens.  It is a wonderful mix of flowers, plants, art and color that all collide in a fascinating way.

Indigio has been involved in this exhibit in that we provided a photoblog to the Denver Botanic Gardens that services as a micro-site about the exhibit.  Check it out at www.denverurbannature.com. Read the rest of this entry »

What’s Blooming at Denver Botanic Gardens? Tom Whittaker

    Monday, April 14th, 2008

Spring FlowersLots of flowers and a new web site.  Today Indigio proudly launched a new site for the Denver Botanic Gardens.  Check it out at www.botanicgardens.org.

This site is more than just a redesign, as it is a completely new platform, enhanced site structure, revised flow, updated content, plus many other impressive changes.  This truly is a transformation from the Gardens’ previous site with the sole goal being simplifying the web site to ensure visitors and members are able to find the most relevant information for their upcoming visit.  Again, this followed Indigio’s motto that less is more and simplicity is key.

This was more than just a project, this was passion for Indigio, as we donated all the time to design, develop and launch this new site.  At Indigio we feel it is important to give back to the community that made us successful over the past 10 years, so what better way to give back to community then supporting a beautiful Garden within our city that gives to all of Colorado.

My thanks to the Project Team - Sara Pacheco (design/strategy), Mike Minton (development/strategy), Wayne Rodgers (content integration), Scott Holdeman (navigation implementation), David French (structural markup) Ander Murane (copywriting), Ryan Hadley (IT), Jack Hylton (IT), Ronnie Guidry (Google Analytics), Brandon Hess (SEO), Jim Halligan (SEO) and Becki Dilworth (strategy) for making this site a reality.  Your hard work is seen in every page.  My thanks to Tim Higgins, our CEO, for allowing Indigio to be involved in such a wonderful organization as Denver Botanic Gardens.

Also, thank you to Doris Boardman, Web Technology Manager and Robin Doerr, Director of Marketing/PR who lead this project at the Denver Botanic Gardens.  Your support, dedication and acceptance of change was truly a blessing.  We look forward to working with you in the months and years to come as the Gardens continues to be sustainable for generations to come.

Downtown Denver Cheap Lunch Restaurants Thomas Noon

    Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

In this edition of cheap eats I wanted to share a couple of more places that are more of the sit down variety in the downtown area. These places are relatively inexpensive and offer casual yet trendy settings to sit and enjoy your meal:

    • Illegal Pete’s
      • Illegal Pete’s is located at 1530 16th St near the corner of 16th and Blake. This eatery offers a casual, upbeat setting that serves huge mission-style burritos, Baja-style fish tacos, quesadillas, burrito bowls and more! Pricing here is pretty comparable to Qdoba or Chipotle. One thing they do while making your burrito is mix up the ingredients in the burrito before they roll it up and serve it. This is something unique that their customers rave about. They also have a bar with TVs which makes for a pretty good happy hour setting also. In addition to excellent customer feedback this place also was recognized by Best of Citysearch: Denver Restaurants as editorial winner of Best Burrito of 2006. If you haven’t already, check this place out.
    • Wazee Supper Club
      • In my opinion, this is the home of the best pizza Downtown Denver has to offer. There are also sandwiches, thick onion rings and french fries as well but their specialty is the pizza with the wonderful sauce and cheese not to mention the huge meat and veggie toppings as well. Located at the corner of 15th and Wazee, this restaurant is reasonably priced and a lot of fun! From tile floor to the ’30s art deco-style bar, this place is trendy and retro at the same time. Whether it is lunch, hanging out with friends for happy hour, or late night eats, you should certainly try this place.

Colorado’s Newest Lake Located Close to I-25: Boat Permits On Sale This Saturday Tom Whittaker

    Friday, February 8th, 2008

20080208_012250_highway_300.jpgIf you live in the Denver area, you know the top news story right now - the sink hole on I-25. For those readers who are not from the area, yesterday a large sink hole formed on our busiest highway and shut down northbound traffic and created a huge headache for many commuters.

However, the way the television news is reacting, you would have thought aliens landed on I-25 and started shooting up the place. But news is news. However I do feel it is a bit of a black eye on Denver Water and the State of Colorado. The hole was caused by a water conduit that leaked and spilled 2 million gallons of water yesterday. The hole 40 feet across and 16 feet deep and fortunately nobody was hurt. Think what may have happened it this occurred overnight. I am sure several people would have been injured or killed.

However, I think the State should turn this negative into a positive by launching some clever campaigns to divert attention from the fact that one of our highways slipped 16 feet down. Here are my suggestions:

    1. Mother Nature’s Speed Bump: Even She Thinks You All Drive Too Fast. Slow Down!

    2. Sink Hole 2008: Colorado’s Primary Coverage

    3. Government Cover-up: Aliens Attack I-25

    4. Hundreds of New Jobs Created for I-25 Reconstruction

    5. Denver Water Cutting Edge: Launches New Aquatic Highway

    And my personal favorite:

    6. Colorado’s Newest Lake Located Close to I-25: Boat Permits On Sale This Saturday

I think that is the problem with state and government agencies is that they do not know how to spin accidents like this. They need to hire quick acting PR firms if you ask me.

Please feel free to post your comments with suggestions here for other creative marketing campaigns to take attention off the big hole in the road.

Denver Botanic Gardens Embrace Technology Tom Whittaker

    Monday, December 17th, 2007

It is always thrilling for me when I meet new clients and see the excitement, pride and dedication they have to their company, product or project.  It is one of the things I love most about my job.

Today, Becki Dilworth and I met with Robin Doerr and Doris Boardman from the Denver Botantic Gardens.  Becki and I will be providing our assistance to their organization throughout 2008 as they develop and implement a roadmap that includes a site redesign, a new content management system and the most exciting part for me, increased social media and community interaction on-line.  It is wonderful to see how Robin and Doris have embraced the fact that technology will help improve everyone’s experience at the Denver Botanic Gardens, not just through a website redesign, but throughout the Gardens with thoughts of things such as WiFi thoughout the Gardens, virtual classrooms, blogs and even the ability to see a plant at the Gardens and then go online to find a local retailer, so you can buy the plant for youself.  I think that often we do not think of technology when it comes to horticultural or the Denver Botanic Gardens, but thanks to these two woman and leaders such as their CEO, Brian Vogt, you soon will.  They are moving the Gardens to becoming a state-of-art facility and proving that technology is just a way of life.  I am honored to be a part of something that I know will prove to be history in the making.

Best of all, the changes to do not stop with technology.  In the months and years to come, you will see changes throughout the entire Denver Botanic Gardens as they are planning on updating parking, visitor services, the entrances and overall facilties, thanks to the passage of Bond Issue G this past November.  It will truly make one of the most beautiful places in Denver, even better.

If you have not been to the Denver Botanic Garden lately or ever, do not feel like you have to wait until Spring - Blossoms of Light is going on right now and continues until January 20th.  Dale and I are planning on going in early January, as we have never been, but if you want a recommendation talk to our own Sara Pacheco.  She goes ever year and has convinced me that it is well worth the trip.
