Mike made me do it
May 2nd, 2008So Mike sent out an email requesting more blogging and passive-aggressively pointed out that I have not yet committed an Indigio blog. Its not that I can’t find a way to get along and do what I’m told, its that I don’t know what to blog about.
Its not the first time Mike has brought up this topic. My first month with Indigio (a company I LOVE btw), Mike (a boss who I LOVE btw) was a regular fixture coming into our work area asking for more blogs which set off the great Dana/Ben blog wars (with graphs!). Now Mike’s requests ring in my ears like a Disco song that I cannot get rid of.
Don’t know what to blog about….
disco songs….
Keep reading on and one of these is bound to get stuck in your head (and maybe start you dancing) for the rest of the day. Stop reading now if you want to find white noise peace.
By popular demand, this is my current list of favorite Disco tunes, be sure to listen to these with a glittery disco ball overhead.
10. Murder on the Dance Floor - Sophie Ellis Bextor
Murder, Dance Floor, nothing else to be said there. Dance floor, violent crime, good time.
9. We Are Family - Sister Sledge
And we are all family. I wrote a 20-page senior thesis on Emersonian Duelism explaining the genius of Whitman solving the question with the first line of Leaves Of Grass, but the sisters said it much more succinctly in this diddy. Plus you can dance to it, Whitman’s version is just a paperweight in the end.
8. Call Me - Blondie
Mom loved it when I came in from the backyard screaming these lyrics everyday at lunchtime. Today, try it for your lunch.
7. Dancing Queen - ABBA
Is there any ABBA song that is not the greatest? I think not. Disco rocks.
6. All Night Long - The Mary Jane Girls
I actually like the version by Erykah Badu better, but hers isn’t really classic disco. The Mary Jane Girls have the classic version down.
5. Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground) - The Jacksons
I almost created this list without the Jacksons, but truth be told whenever I am down thinking back to the Jacksons on the Dinah Shore show puts a huge smile on my face and a song in my head. Classic television in the 70s: big hair, pre-spandex, overbite dancing. Why can’t those times come back? Or maybe there here among us and I just haven’t noticed (see #9)
4. YMCA - Village People
Go on now, you know how to do it. Y M C A
Oh, I caught you dancing.
3. I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
Will I? I’ll blog about it in the future if I do and probably won’t get music stuck in your head the way I am now.
2. You Spin Me (Right Round Baby) - Dead or Alive
If you like dance music at all, you’ve got to have this one. Not many men made my list so this one has to be special. This song makes a great night at a club.
1. Stayin’ Alive - Bee Gees
Oh yeah, when I’m walking down 16th Street in the morning with my headphones on, this song is always blaring even though the iPod is off. John Travolta with a paint can in his hand and a swagger in his step. Oh yeah. Tell me this isn’t your favorite too.
Got any other songs that should have made the list? Which one is playing in your head right now?
Mike made me do it.
At least I didn’t write something about the stupid Red Wings.

I’m not a disco fan… as Jack can confirm. “You don’t like the Bee Gee’s!?” he says in between him singing along with some really girly song and I’m all “what the heck Jack?”
But, I do like new music. So I checked out the ones I didn’t recognize. And I edited your post to link to last.fm, which is an awesome website for checking out a new song. Hope you don’t mind.

I must say that I’m slightly concerned with the fact that you stated in your blog post that you love my husband!!! Is there something he’s not telling me?
Just kidding! Glad to hear that you enjoy working at Indigio as we are happy you’re part of the team!
