Smaller Market Symposium Erin Quinn

April 24th, 2008

SNA Logo SNA has partnered with the NAA on several one-day symposiums. I attended one of these sessions here in Denver today which was jam-packed with information to help newspapers in smaller markets.

Topics included:

  • Interactive Multi-media Marketing – Netting a Better Bottom Line!
  • Innovation in Action
  • Jump start your Retail and Classified Sales
  • Political Advertising – Newspapers Deliver Votes!
  • Big Ideas of Smaller Market Newspapers

My take aways from the sessions include the following highlights that all small market newspapers should keep in mind:

  • When selling online advertising, keep in mind that the majority of your audience is young, affluent, educated and employed.
  • Studies have shown that video based ads average approximately a 3% click thru rate versus traditional banner ads offer .05% rates.
  • Bakotopia.com is one example of how newspapers have started to experiment by launching social networking sites.
