The Truth About Daylight Saving Time
March 8th, 2008
Tonight is the night we all move our clocks forward. We all get some much needed daylight, but what we really get is more happy hours, at least that is what I have noticed over the years. It seems that now that the sun will be shining when we leave work, we are more likely to head for drinks with co-workers. Am I wrong? Is this just an Indigio thing or do all business experience this seasonal increase in work socializing?
I know many of you will tell me Daylight Saving Time reduces energy consumption, reduces traffic fatalities and lets you go to your kid’s soccer practice. Yes, those are all true. However, I think someone needs to do a revenue study on bars and I think you will see an increase right around this time of year. Perhaps the true reason Ben Franklin proposed Daylight Saving Time was not to economize on candles, but the fact he was tired of his co-workers bailing on happy hours he had planned and heading home because it was too dark. Just a thought.
Okay, so who is planning drinks for this Friday?
