The Top 3 reasons why you shouldn’t go to a conference when you’re pregnant Becki Dilworth

February 24th, 2008

This week marks an annual ritual in the lives of many newspaper folks: The Newspaper Association of America’s (NAA) Marketing Convention. It’s 3 straight days of mingling, drinking, learning, drinking and drinking.

Now – I must say that I have thoroughly enjoyed running into several people from my past lives at the Rocky Mountain News and The Denver Newspaper Agency. However, being almost 4 months pregnant has definitely put a damper on the event.

So, without much ado, here are the top 3 reasons why I would recommend not visiting industry conventions while pregnant:

1. Mingling with people you only slightly know (or better yet just met) is much easier with a margarita in hand. For some reason, margaritas seem to make me much more interesting and those that I talk to much more witty.

2. You never know where you’re going to end up at NAA. And an Italian restaurant with Show Tune-singing waiters is much easier to take with a little wine. (Trust me, I speak from recent experience).

3. These people seriously stay up until 3:30 a.m. That’s crazy talk for people in Pregnant-land.

Kudos to Becki for being a trooper. Today the booth work starts, but thankfully we have two chairs, so we can both sit! More updates from NAA to follow…

A good way to generate traffic to the booth may be:

    Feel Becki’s belly for $1

Not only will it generate traffic, but it is a good revenue stream.
