Ode To The Snow
December 28th, 2007Snow has been falling quite heavily in Colorado over the past few days. We were surprised and many of us joyous upon Christmas day to see huge snow flakes falling to the ground. Snow is a beautiful and an intricate detail during the winter season. It provides us with many wonderful things as well as instigates many disastrous events. The one thing I love about new snow is that it blankets the once very dry and dirty ground with its purity and cleanliness. If you haven’t noticed yet, it also softens not only the texture of what we see outside but it softens any loud normal sound that we have grown accustomed to hearing day in and day out. Everything, from trash trucks, voices, and even dirt seems to grovel at the snows power and purity. Everything that was once considered ugly, snow can make it into a beautiful wonder.
Unfortunately this white wonder land only lasts but a few hours before we venture out into it, walking driving, biking, running etc making it dirty again. Am I saying that we should never go out into the snow but wait until Spring for it to melt? Not at all! Go and enjoy yourself, ski, make snowmen/women, run. Snow never holds grudges but continues to give more of itself after we have had our fill of the last gift. The only warning I give, is that be careful! Snow not only brings the ground its wonderful characteristics it also causes many wintry accidents not only in cars but skiing, snowboarding even walking.
Snow comes to provide us with change in our surroundings, reminds us that there is still something completely pure and white in this failing society but also to provide us with a warning that even something so wonderful and potentially harmless can in the end harm us. So, have fun, enjoy the snow, take a minute to take in all the wonderful things it provides but be careful!
