What is Your Digital Footprint? Tom Whittaker

December 10th, 2007

I am a reader of blogs.  For me, they have become an important way I learn about the world around me and what others are excited by, think about and feel. Often I come across great blog postings and I am going to try to better job of sharing these posts – starting now.

Today, I came across a great blog entry that questions what type of digital footprint we all leave titled, Beware – Your Digital Footprint is Your Resume by Jeff Quipp.  We have all heard about carbon footprints and the impact we all have on our environment.  This blog posting takes that same concept and applies it to our internet trail.  It is an interesting idea and it made me think.  What we post, upload or even twitter at 21 years old, may not be what we want to be known for at 31, 41 or beyond.  Could it impact one’s ability to get a job later?  I think it is already happening.

Is your digital footprint clean?   Not sure?  Me either.  Just food for thought.

It’s so true. Flickr photos of keg stands isn’t really the best way to get that cushy desk job you always wanted. Luckily there are ways to repair your “search engine image” (for now anyway).
