Click Density Trial – Step 1
November 13th, 2007I’ve decided to give Click Density a try on the Indigio blog. Click Density is a JS file that tracks where your users are clicking and then generates a cool (not literally) heat map based on that data. I’m hoping it will help me understand how people are using the blog and how it can improve. It’s free for one site with up to 5,000 clicks. To track more than one page, you’ve got to shell out some cash.
Since I just implemented the JS and there’s no data yet, I can only hypothesize as to what I think we will learn from this little experiment. First of all, I’m almost certain that no one is using the main category navigation. In fact, I think the most commonly used element is probably the scrollbar (not even part of the site design). And secondly, I would wager that the outgoing links within the post bodies will have a pretty high click-volume.
I’ll keep you posted on the findings. Check back for updates.

Michael,
You should also check out crazyegg.com. Also, if you want, I have a script that we can host locally that does this as well.

Thanks Micah! I actually had a fair bit of trouble getting clickdensity to play nice with wordpress. But crazyegg is running flawlessly. I’ll post the results later this week.
